Where Journeys Begin
Today I grabbed my camera and followed the ocean breeze east, heading toward Jetty Park in Cocoa — one of those places where stories quietly begin long before the ships ever reach open water.
The afternoon unfolded gently, wrapped in a perfect coastal balance: a brisk 70 degrees, sunlight softened by passing clouds, and a steady breeze that carried the unmistakable scent of salt and adventure. It was the kind of weather that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and simply observe life happening around you.
From the shoreline, I watched cruise passengers standing on balconies and verandas, leaning outward as their floating cities prepared to depart. Faces filled with anticipation — smiles, laughter, waving hands — each person standing at the edge of their own upcoming story. For many, this was more than a vacation; it was an escape, a celebration, a long-awaited pause from everyday life.
Through my lens, I captured moments aboard Adventure of the Seas, Mardi Gras, Celebrity Apex, and several others passing gracefully along the horizon. Each ship moved with quiet confidence, carrying thousands of dreams toward distant sunsets.
There’s something uniquely beautiful about photographing departures rather than destinations. You can almost feel the excitement in the air — that shared human emotion of what comes next.
Later, I wandered onto the pier, trading the sound of ship horns for the rhythmic splash of fishing lines meeting the water. Locals lined the rails, patiently enjoying a perfect fishing day, conversations drifting as easily as the tide itself. Some were focused on their catch; others simply seemed content to stand there, watching the world move by one wave at a time.
It struck me how Jetty Park holds two very different journeys at once — travelers setting off toward adventure, and others perfectly happy staying right where they are, finding peace in the moment.
Days like this remind me why I carry a camera everywhere. Not just to capture images, but to preserve feelings — the excitement of departure, the calm of the ocean breeze, and the quiet joy of a beautiful Florida afternoon.
Sometimes the best photographs aren’t about where you go… but about witnessing the happiness of others as their journey begins.
