What a View!
Some trips give you memories. Others give you perspective.
My recent stay at the Westin Savannah turned out to be a bit of both.
What began as a great visit quickly elevated—literally—when I was given a complimentary upgrade to a river view room. From the moment I walked in, it was clear this wasn’t just a place to stay… it was a vantage point. The Savannah River became the centerpiece, constantly shifting with light, movement, and energy.
Having a 200–400mm lens with me made the experience even more enjoyable. It allowed me to pull distant details closer—boats passing, textures along the waterfront, subtle moments that would otherwise go unnoticed. The view wasn’t just something to look at; it became something to explore.
Was I enjoying the hotel more… or the view?
The property itself holds its own. The pool deck is one of those places that quietly impresses you. Sitting in the hot tub while overlooking the river creates a unique kind of pause—relaxed, scenic, and just removed enough from everything to feel like a true escape. It’s a space that invites you to slow down without asking for it.
Equally important is the team behind the experience. The staff at the Savannah Westin, led by Isabella Mundy, has clearly been built with intention. There’s a level of professionalism and attentiveness that feels natural, not scripted—something that’s harder to find than it should be.
By the end of the stay, I still couldn’t quite answer that original question. The hotel and the view blended into one experience—each elevating the other.
What I do know is simple: the next time I find myself in Savannah, there won’t be much thought involved in where I stay.
And if I happen to have a long lens with me again… I already know exactly where I’ll be setting it up.
From above the view is even more impressive
From above, the perspective shifts in a way that ground level never quite captures. The drone shots reveal the full presence of the property—how the hotel sits confidently along the river’s edge, balanced between the calm of the water and the rhythm of Savannah across the way.
You begin to see the design in its entirety: the flow of the pool deck, the symmetry of the grounds, and the way everything is oriented to embrace the river. It’s a view that adds context to the experience, turning what felt immersive from the room into something even more complete from the sky—showing not just where you stayed, but how perfectly it’s placed.
Southern hospitality is a real thing
Walking along the riverfront in downtown Savannah feels like stepping into a slower, more intentional rhythm. The cobblestone paths, the glow from waterfront restaurants, and the inviting storefronts all seem to draw you in without effort. There’s a charm in simply wandering—pausing to look into a shop, catching the sound of conversation spilling out from a nearby patio, or taking in the movement of the river just steps away.
What stands out most, though, is the people. The warmth, the easy smiles, the genuine conversations—it’s not something manufactured; southern hospitality here feels real, and it’s part of what makes Savannah more than just a place to visit, but a place to experience.
