Sony 16-35MM
Tonight I took my new Sony 16-35mm lens out for its very first real-world test drive—and what better playground than Universal CityWalk after dark?
I wanted a true “no safety net” scenario: handheld, low light, lots of movement, neon signs, reflections, crowds, and all the chaos that makes night photography both challenging and fun. Wide-angle lenses live for this kind of environment, and the 16-35 didn’t disappoint.
From glowing storefronts to the giant spinning Universal globe, everything felt larger than life through this lens. The extra width let me capture entire scenes instead of just slices of them—perfect for storytelling shots where the environment is just as important as the subject. Even handheld, the images stayed sharp and vibrant, and the colors straight out of camera looked fantastic.
CityWalk is basically a candy store for photographers: bright lights, deep shadows, crazy angles, and endless people-watching. With the 16-35, I could stand right in the middle of it all and still fit everything into the frame.
First impressions? This lens is going to be a lot of fun.
