Island Roots & Entrepreneurial Sparks: My August Trip to St. Kitts

I had the opportunity to spend a week in beautiful St. Kitts—not just for a tropical escape, but for a bit of family duty and discovery.

I was there assisting my cousins, Shane and Wendy, with prepping my Aunt Joan’s home to become a rental property. Between cleaning, organizing, and tackling the kind of to-do list that only comes with converting a family home into something new, we managed to carve out moments of connection that reminded me just how deep my roots run on this island.

One of the best parts of the trip was catching up with cousins I hadn’t seen in years and spending time with my Uncle Derrick. There’s something grounding about sitting and talking with family, especially in the very place where so many of our shared stories began.

But the true highlight of my visit? A stop at Fraites Bakery. Seeing my name on a business—right there on the storefront—sparked something powerful in me. It was more than just pride; it was a reminder of the entrepreneurial spirit that runs in the family. Walking into the bakery felt like walking into a piece of legacy, and it made me reflect on what it means to carry a name tied to both history and ambition.

This trip wasn’t just about helping with a house. It was about reconnecting—with family, with heritage, and with that inner fire to build something meaningful. The island gave me more than sunshine and ocean views—it gave me perspective.
