Get Hook’d on Lake Monroe

Today was one for the books! I spent the afternoon wandering through the 7th Annual Get Hook’d on Lake Monroe Seafood Festival in Historic Downtown Sanford, and it was everything a seafood lover could hope for — and more! The festival, held along Sanford Avenue and at the Wild, Wild West End Saloon, brought together friends, families, and foodies to celebrate the best of fresh seafood, live music, and community vibes.

With 30+ food vendors set up throughout the festival, I sampled incredible seafood delights that ranged from buttery shrimp boils to perfectly seasoned crab cakes. Vendors from around the area — including local food trucks and waterfront grills — served up some of the freshest catches straight from Lake Monroe and beyond. Between bites, I caught up with fellow seafood fans and enjoyed the sounds of live music filling the sunny streets.

Whether you were craving grilled seafood, spicy gumbo, or a cold craft drink, there was something for every palate. (Shout-out to the crews who kept the lines moving and the smiles flowing!)

The weather today was quintessential Central Florida sunshine — warm and breezy with clear blue skies — perfect for a street festival. It was one of those days where lingering outside with great food and even better company was just meant to be.

While the food was definitely the star of the show, the setting added so much to the experience. Downtown Sanford isn’t just a place for festivals — it’s steeped in history. Founded in the 1800s as a key hub along Lake Monroe and developing into a thriving riverside town, Sanford’s historic commercial district features beautiful brick streets and classic architecture that made today’s festival feel like a perfect blend of community and tradition.

After indulging in seafood, many festivalgoers took leisurely strolls along the Sanford Riverwalk, admired the lake views, or popped into local shops and breweries that make this downtown such a beloved destination.

This festival is more than just great food — it’s about community. Folks of all ages came together to enjoy good weather, great music, and tons of family-friendly fun. There were smiles everywhere and a real sense of pride in this unique Florida town.

If today was any indication, the Get Hook’d Seafood Festival is easily one of Sanford’s standout events each year — and a reason to come back again and again!

If you want, I can tailor this further — for example, adding vendor highlights from your photos or crafting a social media version too!
