Sometimes you don’t have to travel very far to feel like you’ve gone somewhere else.
This weekend was one of those little escapes—a few sun-soaked days at the JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes, where the pace seemed to slow somewhere between the palm trees and the water. From the ground, it was a weekend by the pool: warm Florida sunshine, the lazy river drifting quietly past, cold drinks, laughter, and nowhere in particular that we needed to be.
But from the air, it became something entirely different.
Looking down through the lens of a drone, the pools turned into ribbons of blue winding through a sea of green. Tiny umbrellas dotted the landscape, palm trees cast their shadows across the water, and people floated almost effortlessly through the afternoon. From a few hundred feet above, all the noise and movement disappeared, leaving behind shapes, colors and patterns that felt almost whimsical.
There is something beautiful about seeing a familiar place from an unfamiliar perspective. For a little while, Orlando didn’t feel like home just down the road. It felt like a destination.
