Because I needed it
Some of the best software starts with a simple thought: “I need this, and I really don’t want to become another monthly customer just to get it.” That’s exactly how Nightshift came about. Much of my development, photography, simulator work, and other projects live on external SSDs, and I wanted a straightforward way to automatically back up new and changed files to another Mac on my network every night. No cloud storage plan, no subscription, no complicated ecosystem—just set the source, choose the destination, pick a time, and let it work. Nightshift is one-way by design, treating the working SSD as the master and never writing changes back to it.
Today, I’m happy to officially release Nightshift for macOS—and in keeping with the reason I built it, it’s free. It’s a small application that solves a very real problem in my own workflow, and hopefully it can do the same for someone else.
