There are some moments in life that hit a little differently.
Today was one of those moments.

Yet now, Max officially completed his Private Pilot License at Orlando Flight School.
I’ve known Max for years. His dad is one of my closest friends — someone I consider more like a brother — so watching Max grow up and reach this milestone carries a little more weight for me.
I still remember getting him his first discovery flight at Orlando Executive Airport. At the time, it was simply an opportunity to introduce a young man to aviation, to let him sit behind the controls and experience what so many of us already know: there is something special about leaving the ground behind.
I wrote about that first flight on this blog, never knowing exactly where it might lead.
Today, we know.
It led right back to the airport — except this time, Max walked away as a pilot.
And anyone who has earned a Private Pilot License knows those three letters — PPL — don't begin to describe what it takes to get there.
It takes money. It takes time. It takes studying when you'd rather be doing something else. It takes frustrating flights, good landings, bad landings, weather cancellations, written exams, medicals, checklists, instructors, solo flights, and plenty of moments when quitting would certainly be easier.
You don't simply buy a pilot certificate.
You earn it.
That's why today isn't just about passing a checkride. It's about watching a young man set a difficult goal and see it all the way through.
I know his family is incredibly proud of him.
And Max, I hope you know that I am too.
Being there near the beginning of this journey and now getting to see you reach this milestone is something I'll remember for a very long time.
That young aviator who took his first discovery flight at Orlando Executive is now Private Pilot Max.
There are a lot more ratings to earn, airplanes to fly, places to see, and logbook pages waiting to be filled.
But today, enjoy this one.
